Julian’s Future Fashion has Electric Style

Congratulations to our Diploma of Fashion Design student Julian Napier for his win at the ‘Electric Playground Club Couture’ fashion competition last night! The competition was held by the newest nightclub venue in the Valley (Brisbane) – Electric Playground, their mission is to evolve the nightclub cuture in Brisbane and with that theme in mind, the brief for the competition was to design your view of club wear for the year 2050!

Julian, along with classmate Masa Gracanic were selected as finalists in the competition after submitting their designs in to be judged in late June.  Selected finalists finished garments were then paraded at the Electric Playground on Thursday the 22nd of July to a panel of judges including fashion and beauty editor at the Sunday Mail – Kellie Alderman, Francis Leon designer Katy Lysaught, founder of the Brisbane Clothing Exchange – Cassie Wood, award winning designer & retailer Daniel Alexander and moel booker from Tamblyn Models – Courtney Smith.

Julian won a fantastic prize including $500 cash from Electric Playground, $250 credit towards fabrics from Spotlight, a portfolio photoshoot with Nick Art and Photography worth over $500 and will have the opportunity to have his design featured in the front window of the Daniel Alexander Couture store in Fortitude Valley for two weeks in August!

Laruche Parade

Check out these photos from the Parade styled by our Brisbane Diploma of Styling students held in the gorgeous Laruche Bar in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. Students selected garments from local fashion retailers in Fortitude Valley such as Subfusco and put together a variety of looks for the parade and also did the model’s hair and make-up and dressed backstage!

Style Off Competition Win!

A big congratulations to four of our styling students:  Sam Jenkins, Stevie Peers, Hazel Suaraz and Sally Buchanan who were finalists in the Sanctuary Cove Style Off Competition for emerging fashion stylists on Thursday the 10th of June. An even bigger congratulations goes to Sam Jenkins and Stevie Peers who were selected as the winners of the competition!

Applicants were to submit 3 photos from their latest style shoot along with a one page describing their inspiration and showing their passion for styling.  Selected finalists were allocated a retail store from Sanctuary Cove and were to present 6 styled looks on 6 models with items from the allocated store. The finalists looks were then paraded at Sanctuary Cove on Thursday the 10th of June while the stylists were interviewed on stage about their key look.

Little Green Dress Winners!

Nicole won the Wearable Art category at the Little Green Dress Competition Final held at Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach on Sunday the 13th of June.

The Winner of the Student category and Overall Competition Winner was our Diploma of Fashion Design student Masa Gracanic! Our students Cynthia Coetzer and Grace Denniss were also finalists in the Student category of the competition!

New Brisbane Campus

AICD will open a Brisbane campus in Fortitude Valley (within short walking distance from the train station), in March 2010, offering students the option to study selected courses in Brisbane.

Students will be able to enrol in the Diploma of Styling to start on the 16th of March in Brisbane as well as a number of other courses. More information coming soon!

Beauty Therapy ITEC Approval

The Australian Institute of Beauty Therapy is now ITEC approved and is the only beauty school on the Gold Coast that offers international qualifications in beauty.

ITEC is an international examination board that offers a variety of qualifications worldwide. This means that our curriculum meets the ITEC standards and prepares students for sitting the ITEC examinations. Students that successfully complete the international qualifications will be qualified to work on cruise ships and in over 33 countries around the world. Students will have the option to sit the ITEC international examiniations in beauty on completion of the Diploma of Beauty Therapy course. As a special offer for our first year of ITEC assessments, all Diploma of Beauty Therapy students enrolled to start in March 2010 will receive the Beauty Specialists Level 2 ITEC assessment for free.
