Last Friday night (the 7th of October), eleven of our first year fashion design students participated in the 2011 Queensland Brides Design Awards student category – Calico Brides. The competition was held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in South Bank, where the student paraded their bridal designs made from seven metres of calico alongside professional bridal designers gowns. AICD student Liezl Boshoff was awarded the ‘Highly Commended’ award for her bridal gown titled ‘Linea Houdini’. Watch the parade below:

Come along to support six of our Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology students as they showcase their latest collections at Sanctuary Cove on Tuesday the 14th of June. The parade will showcase the designs of Rheya Minard, Sarah Hultman, Marie Gleeson, Cynthia Coetzer, Julian Napier and Tania Tuetue and will be featured as part of Sanctuary Cove’s Winter Festival from the 4th – 19th of June. On Friday the 8th of October, students from around Queensland presented their Bridal Designs in the Queensland Brides Design Awards student competition ‘Calico Brides’ at the Brisbane Convention Centre in Southbank. Students given the challenge of designing and making a wedding dress out of Calico, of which they are provided with 7 metres from Gardam’s Fabrics. Each year we see student’s present their innovative bridal designs to a panel of judges and an audience of soon-to-be brides and proud parents. This year we are proud to congratulate our student Jane Andrewartha for winning the Runner Up prize in this years competition with her gorgeous ‘Frills by Frills’ bridal gown.

You are invited to attend the ‘Metamorphosis…‘ parade to be held on Wednesday the 18th of August at Lauxes Lounge Bar & Restaurant Broadbeach from 6pm.

Metamorphosis will showcase the launch collections from four emerging design labels – Astrid King (designed by Candice Turner), Becoming Silhouettes (designed by Amit Ayalon), Jez-e-Bel (designed by Aubrey Wright) and Mac&Bain (designed by Alana McBain).

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from administration at the Australian Institute of Creative Design Gold Coast Campus – 14/475 Scottsdale Drv, Varsity Lakes. RSVP by Friday the 13th of August 2010.

Julian, along with classmate Masa Gracanic were selected as finalists in the competition after submitting their designs in to be judged in late June.  Selected finalists finished garments were then paraded at the Electric Playground on Thursday the 22nd of July to a panel of judges including fashion and beauty editor at the Sunday Mail – Kellie Alderman, Francis Leon designer Katy Lysaught, founder of the Brisbane Clothing Exchange – Cassie Wood, award winning designer & retailer Daniel Alexander and moel booker from Tamblyn Models – Courtney Smith.

Julian won a fantastic prize including $500 cash from Electric Playground, $250 credit towards fabrics from Spotlight, a portfolio photoshoot with Nick Art and Photography worth over $500 and will have the opportunity to have his design featured in the front window of the Daniel Alexander Couture store in Fortitude Valley for two weeks in August!

Nicole won the Wearable Art category at the Little Green Dress Competition Final held at Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach on Sunday the 13th of June.

The Winner of the Student category and Overall Competition Winner was our Diploma of Fashion Design student Masa Gracanic! Our students Cynthia Coetzer and Grace Denniss were also finalists in the Student category of the competition!
