The competition invited entries from all over Australia to create a textile design for a Billabong Girls Bikini with the winner having their design sold as a Billabong limited edition piece through the Surf Stitch website. Out of hundreds of entries, Katie’s design was selected as one of the two finalists to go head to head in the ‘Bikini Showdown’ for the most votes on the website in the week leading up to the Design for Humanity event held in Sydney, with the final votes cast on the night by attendees via SMS.

The Design for Humanity event, held at Oxford Art Factory in Sydney was a mix of fashion, art and music created to raise funds for UNICEF’s Pakistan Food Relief Appeal. The event featured musical performances from The Vines and Operator Please with 100% of proceeds from the ticket sales being donated.You can now purchase Katie’s design on the Surf Stitch website, but you must get in quick as there are only 50 available!

You can check out Katie’s winning design in the Unborn Treasure’s exhibition at the Sanctuary Cove Village Theatre on Tuesday the 14th of December from 5-7pm.

You are invited to attend the ‘Metamorphosis…‘ parade to be held on Wednesday the 18th of August at Lauxes Lounge Bar & Restaurant Broadbeach from 6pm.

Metamorphosis will showcase the launch collections from four emerging design labels – Astrid King (designed by Candice Turner), Becoming Silhouettes (designed by Amit Ayalon), Jez-e-Bel (designed by Aubrey Wright) and Mac&Bain (designed by Alana McBain).

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from administration at the Australian Institute of Creative Design Gold Coast Campus – 14/475 Scottsdale Drv, Varsity Lakes. RSVP by Friday the 13th of August 2010.

Nicole won the Wearable Art category at the Little Green Dress Competition Final held at Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach on Sunday the 13th of June.

The Winner of the Student category and Overall Competition Winner was our Diploma of Fashion Design student Masa Gracanic! Our students Cynthia Coetzer and Grace Denniss were also finalists in the Student category of the competition!

Strut It: AICD Fashion Student's Parade at Elsewhere: 21st June

On Sunday the 21st of June, AICD fashion students will be presenting a parade of some of their recent work at the Elsewhere Bar in Surfers Paradise. The parade will feature designs from Jaymes Swimwear by Jamie Allen, Katari by Tara Whaley, Alice Nightingale by Alice Veivers, Ashes by Ashleigh Alexander, Violet Olive by Candice Turner, Diamond Camel by Camille Hemsley, Nik by Nicole Walker and Larlette by Angela Dill.

AICD Beauty, Makeup and Styling students will assist with the event, by doing the model’s makeup and hair and dressing backstage on the night.
